In the “old days” chatbots were simply a flow of questions and logic. The software was programmed to respond mechanically to the user’s input/selections. In recent years, chatbots have gotten smarter. For example, instead of answering with a “Yes” the newer chatbots will still understand the input if the user answers “Sure” or “Yep” or “I guess so”.

Even so, up until recently these types of chatbots were very tedious to construct and with limited capabilities. Voiceflow has taken the capabilities of the chatbot to another level as well as the ease of construction.

I’ve been playing around with Voiceflow and created a chatbot from scratch in a few hours. It’s a simple drag-and-drop interface. While it can get complicated, it’s very intuitive. 

We’re all familiar with chatbots for websites for lead generation. And companies are using these for customer service and internally for employee questions (e.g., how do I change my withholdings), but chatbots are going to be used in a lot more new and different applications.

Voiceflow connects to Zapier, which itself connects to over 5000 other applications. As you probably know, but just incase you don’t, Chatbots are not limited to websites and can be connected to email, SMS, Facebook DM, LinkedIn messaging, X (Twitter), etc. This means there are huge opportunities in this space. For example, get some data from some Zapier data sources, use AI to process it, output it on twitter, or LinkedIn, or Facebook, Google Sheets, etc. You’re only limited by your imagination.

4. Excel Assistant

Businesses and people alike use Excel. It’s the goto PC-based spreadsheet. The issue: anytime I do something out of the ordinary (like when I need a formula) it’s like hammering a dent out of a metal pan (frustrating). Numerous gives you an AI assistant right inside Excel. So if you’re not sure how to do something, just ask. It can make educated guesses, summarize text into bullet points, extract specific parts from text, etc.
